The Oklahoma City Thunder are among the best-known brands in the nation, with a marketing approach unique in the NBA: “focus on the team and community.” In early 2014, the Thunder approached STAPLEGUN looking for ideas that would embody their values. Using nontraditional, social and grassroots approaches, we delivered an online campaign focused on the hashtag “#WeAreThunder,” coupled with street art in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District bearing the same words. As the Thunder’s trust in STAPLEGUN grew, we expanded work to include a series of “tune-in” spots encouraging viewers to watch Thunder games on Fox.
